WHAT WE DO AND ACHIEVE

  • Teach music to close to 400 disadvantaged children

  • 120 of the music learners receive individualised music tuition of orchestral instruments

  • Others receive music instruction in choirs and recorder groups

  • Employ full time and part time music teachers

  • Annually present a Youth Orchestral Experience for which all music learners in the Eastern Cape can audition to play in a symphony orchestra or a symphonic wind band

  • A youth symphony orchestra ( Bloemendal Youth Orchestra), consisting of disadvantaged learners only, rehearse weekly and present at least three concerts annually in their communities

  • Every one of the 3 schools and one church venue we use for tuition has ensemble groups who play together to add to the learners joy in music making

  • We assist in finding bursaries for young adults who want to make music a career and sponsor such individuals ourselves should we have sufficient funding

  • Our music learners and their families are assisted in attending concerts of the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (ECPO) in the Feather Market Concert Hall

  • We train young individuals in music related activities such as stage management & front of house duties

  • Opportunities to mix socially with learners who share a mutual interest in music and are from the full spectrum of the socio-economic and cultural background of our diverse country are created

  • Improvement of their skills and understanding of the instrument on which they play are evident in our music learners

  • Extension of their knowledge of and playing of the orchestral repertoire grows annually

  • Exposure to some of the best youth orchestra and band conductors as well as music instrument facilitators in the country

  • Demonstrate to their peers, parents and family their achievement and progress in music making

  • One professional musician and one music educator have been funded by the project for their university studies

  • We employ 3 full time and 4 part time music teachers
